Investment Cycles

And why ensuring seasons are built-in allow you to have a massive advantage

Consistency is a myth, friend.

Or at least, in which way most people think of it.

Most of the time, what we desire inside of our lives and business? A level of predictability. Continued growth, bigger months, more profit.

In all of the businesses I’ve mentored and owned, generally there are patterns and micro seasons.

Months and qauters of upswings and downswings. For example, in my own business, I generally have my “largest” months in January, April, May, September and October with my “lowest” months specifically in December, February and July.

So many of those I meet try to “fight” the season instead of embracing it…

When it comes to investing, this is also important. As of the time of writing, I own or partially own 33 businesses (with minimum ownership of 5%).

In 2020, at this same time, I only owned 4 businesses. When I knew that this was my next season, I started very slowly. Having owned businesses in the past and having partners, I knew I wanted to approach it slowly.

This led me to develop the strategies and frameworks that have worked so well in my mentorship work. In many ways, I felt like I was going backwards for quite some time, however, as I do— I surrendered to the process and the season.

Then, it was time for the next season. Now, that I had the structure, the vision, the understanding, the infrastructure and all the pieces together, quickly I was able to bring amazing Entrepreneurs into my group, along with acquiring a variety of businesses that made a lot of sense.

On paper, between 2020 and 2022 (2 years), I was able to increase my net worth by more than my entire life, up to that point.

It’s taken a lot of planning, a lot of learning, a lot of advisory by those who I’m happy to call my friends and.. an inner-knowing that what I’m doing today, is what I was meant to do.

Further, it also required that for the past number of years, I lived, breathed and became obsessed with what I’m doing today— spending every spare moment researching, talking, interviewing, writing and understanding.

I know from the past that obsession is the easiest path to discovery.

And thus, now I transition into a new season.

That season is less about “more” and is now about depth— creating massive success in the 3 categories that I’m working inside of, while allowing for the team, infrastructure and capital needed for the next season to build.

I’m now in the hurry up and wait stage, where everything goes so incredibly slow and quick all at the same time.

It’s important to respect it, because, the last thing I should do right now, as I transition into the next phase?

Buy 20 more businesses and “hope” that it works. It’s now, time to take all that I’ve gathered and go all “in” on *this* stage of my season, while documenting it, so you can learn along with me.

Respect your seasons and the universe rewards you greatly.
